The Paumanok Driving Club was established in 1985 by a group of enthusiastic horse lovers to promote horse drawn vehicle driving in Long Island, New York. The main mission of the club is to educate people in the pursuit of safe driving as a sport as well as a hobby. The name was derived from the Native American Indian word meaning "fish shaped", referring to the shape of Long Island. The mainstay of this club is an active group of participants whose common interests and enthusiastic camraderie, on both educational and social levels, create a conducive atmosphere for membership growth. The P.D.C. is an affiliate member of the American Driving Society. We also have access to information regarding the Carriage Association of America. On the local level, we are affiliated with the Carriage Museums at Stony Brook located in Stony Brook, New York. Due to our alliance with these organizations, it gives members a terrific opportunity for educational resources. in order to learn about all aspects of driving from a traditional standpoint; encompassing the rich history of horse drawn vehicles; to a more contemporary aspect encompassing driving competitions, and finally (of course) for pure PLEASURE! A P.D.C. member will enjoy many benefits such as: Participation in local events Information for ADS and CAA sponsored events; as well as other events around the country and the world! Newsletter-One every other month Informative seminars, workshops, literature Free access to the Carriage Museums at Stony Brook and discount benefits in their Gift Shop Discount benefits at local tack, feed and supply shops Sharing horse stories, create friendships, and HAVE FUN!!!
